Apple Chicago

Ya gotta love Apple when they do a store on the Chicago River that's like a theatre (designed by Foster & Partners).  People just sit and watch the world go by, and listen to beat guru’s giving public lessons on new software on the ‘big screen’.

Not to plug a particular product or commerce in general, but this age now has made it possible as an artist to record and get my music out into the universe. 30 or 40 years ago this was not possible, and if you weren't a rising star discovered by a mogul………you had no voice.

Three albums and six singles later, I am eternally grateful for what Apple (my platform of choice), and many other tech and software companies have made & make possible.

Serendipity & Influences

Back in summer 2017 I had the serendipitous opportunity to spend a whole day in a song writing workshop with Mary Gauthier and Eliza Gilkyson who were both here to perform at the Edmonton Folk Festival.  It was, to say the least, magical, sitting in a living room talking, listening to guests share their in progress work, critiquing, and listening to Mary and Eliza share stories about song writing, the art and craft, and the music industry.

In the moment you know you are experiencing something incredibly special and rare.  Their experiences aren’t mine, they are standing in a stream that I would love to stand in, their life immersion is different. But, you are there in the energy of the day, the subject, the focus.  And, you come away with the sense of a remarkable special aura around you after the experience. You have discovered some things you didn’t know till then.

On the Serendipity side, all this only came about because of local musical friendships that passed me along.  Meeting Rhea March at her Song Circle, Rhea suggesting I drop in on Rob Heath’s monthly writers venue…………..and whalla!!! A chance to sit with two international American greats.  

The Universe is an abundant place.  This experience has left me with much.  Many thanks to Rhea and Rob. And the special things seem to continue.

ALL AROUND THE WORLD

I am delighted to announce that Where To Now has been having adventures all around the world.  Tax time brought me around to dealing with where music from my new album has been sold......so the Tax Man got their report. So far as the ship and radio waves sail, the album is reaching America, Argentina, Australia, Canada, China, France, Great Britain, Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Sweden, Taiwan. How flippin cool is that!  Power & Freedom was big in Russia and China among other songs! Thank you to all of you who have and are supporting the music and therefore humanitarian projects. Music & The Ship

I'm learning that making and writing music and songs is akin to building or rebuilding a boat. It requires A Whole Lotta Love....real love like being in love....shiploads of patience and time, and an insatiable appetite for work and craft.

This week I had the great pleasure of meeting Jean Gaudin of Abernethy & Gaudin BoatBuilders in Brentwood Bay, Bristish Columbia.......quite by accident.  Lucky me! A wonderful pleasure, and I got to see an amazing restoration they are working on now. Music was definitely the vessel for this cosmic happenstance and their work is a must see even if you're not into boats. It's poetry.

Soirée de Poche

On Saturday the 10th of September, 2016 I had an album release soiree hosted by our lovely neighbours in their beautiful home.  We were at capacity at 40 people, the place looked beautiful - lights, candles, lanterns, lights in the apple tree through the windows, cozy organic casual arrangement of seating, and lots of treats spread out over the kitchen island.

With only one rehearsal the Thursday night prior (the loudest rehearsal I have ever been a part of), the band was in fine form, played solidly with passion, conviction and connection, and the audio in the room was amazing, thank you to the crew at Northern Sessions who were also part of the evening.

I have to say, the evening went by at lighting speed after months of preparation and organization for it.................and left behind itself a spell of magic, and wonderment of 'what next'.  Thank you to all the guests that came, to our lovely hosts Tony & Hilaria, to the artists that played the evening away with me, and the muses around us all.  Big hugs and thank you's to the small team of people that have been behind me and encouraged me; Kendel Vreeling of KendelMakes and Valeeshia Young (and her publishing & management advise), the band - Lara Tang, Stew Kirkwood of Sound Extractor Studios (Jeff Kynoch in spirit), Chris Tabbert and Dustin Roy.  Special thanks to my family for continually supporting my artistic path, along with my friends.
